# Quick Start

This page gets your first file onto Tapedrive and back. Install the tools, set up a
wallet, then run three commands.

## Install Tapedrive

Install the early-access release:

```bash theme={null}
curl -fsSL https://tape.network/install.sh | sh
```

> [!NOTE]
>
> This installs the complete toolchain. It does not automatically configure or
> start a local node or gateway; follow the [installation guide](https://docs.tape.network/install.md) for
> current platform support and next steps.

## Use Tapenet today

> **[Use Tapenet](https://docs.tape.network/tapenet/access.md)**
>
> Set up a wallet and get the funds needed to use Tapenet. This is the path that
> works today.

> **[Run locally](https://docs.tape.network/tapenet/local.md)**
>
> Keep the storage on your computer or hardware you control. The local setup isn't
> released yet. See what is coming and get early access.

The commands below run against Tapenet today. They will work the same way locally, with
only the connection changing.

## Using the CLI

Complete the [wallet and funding setup](https://docs.tape.network/tapenet/access.md) first. With your connection
and wallet ready, the shortest CLI session looks like this:

```bash theme={null}
tape create --capacity 100m --duration 1d   # reserve a tape; it becomes your active tape
tape write photo.jpg                        # upload: registers, distributes, and certifies
tape read 7trKAddressExampleBase58Value11111111111111 --out photo.jpg
```

![Terminal recording of tape create, tape write, and tape read](https://mintcdn.com/tapedrive/IVlwjOpRsvR7xk5g/images/write.gif?s=abef920c6095c379234cdd79a66b0efb)

The same session, live: create a tape, write a file, read it back.

The [CLI docs](https://docs.tape.network/tools/cli.md) cover every command.

## Using an SDK

Prefer code? The [SDK quickstart](https://docs.tape.network/sdks/quickstart.md) walks the same flow (connect,
reserve, write, read) in Rust. SDKs for more languages are in the works.

## Using Git

The installed Git remote helper makes a tape a Git remote. Anyone with an address can
clone it, and the tape owner can push:

```bash theme={null}
git clone tape://<address>
git push tape main
```

See the [Git integration guide](https://docs.tape.network/tools/git.md) for repository setup, permissions, and
gateway reads.

## Using S3 tooling

Already have S3 workflows? The [S3-compatible gateway](https://docs.tape.network/tools/s3-gateway.md) accepts standard S3 clients: the AWS CLI, rclone, S3 SDKs. Start with [compatibility](https://docs.tape.network/tools/s3-gateway/compatibility.md) and [configuration](https://docs.tape.network/tools/s3-gateway/configuration.md).
