Abstract

Existing decentralized storage protocols weren’t built to be drop-in replacements for S3, and it shows: the throughput, latency, cost, and availability that S3 users expect aren’t there. That gap pushes data-heavy workloads (AI context data, training and inference sets, large-scale analytics) onto centralized infrastructure. The paper proposes a storage protocol built for that gap. It separates the control plane from the data plane, uses erasure coding with low replication and cheap repair, moves data efficiently between gateways and storage nodes, writes small files through the chain itself via tape replay, grows without hard limits through quorum-governed parameters, and verifies storage continuously through a challenge mechanism backed by slashing. The goal is read performance comparable to centralized object storage.
